LAUNCHING THE WOMEN ECONOMIC FORUM FOR THE FIRST TIME IN EGYPT

The 26th Annual Women Economic Forum was launched on 4th March in Cairo under the auspices of President al Sisi, which was supervised by the National Council for Women in cooperation with The Works.

For the first time, this global event took place in the Middle East. It presented many stories talking about more than 1000 leading women from Egypt and around the world that had an effective role in tackling the issues of employment, international trade, the role of women in technology and finance, and a lot more. This annual event was presided by the National Council for Women, chaired by Dr. Maya Morsi. It was also organized by Worx for events, headed by Egyptian entrepreneur Neamat Khalil.


The forum discussed many interesting topics, including the role of women in boards of directors, science, and technology. Along with this, the discussion included gender equality in order to achieve the goals of sustainable development, as well as family economics, business development, and reimagine policymaking in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. In addition, there was a session held by the President of the Financial Supervision Authority to empower women, and combating stereotypes of women in the media.


The forum witnessed the participation of 700 women and business leaders from various countries of the world and the presence of a large number of businesswomen and public figures, including Dr. Bina Moody is Chairman of Modi Enterprises, an Indian business group valued at 2.8 billion dollars, and Nerja Birla, the famous Indian businesswoman and founder and chairman of the Aditya Birla Education Trust.


This annual event was the brainchild of Indian entrepreneur, Dr. Harbin Aurora, who was granted a special award at the 2018 World Youth Forum in Sharm El-Sheikh by the Egyptian president al Sisi for her renowned global achievements as a business leader and philanthropist.

Dr. Morsi, Speaker of the National Council, started the forum by welcoming Dr.Harbin Aurora, and asked her to comment on this event. Dr. Aurora said, “When I met President Sisi last year, I made a promise to host the Women Economic Forum in Egypt, and today, I am honored to announce to the world that it’s happening.”


Dr. Morsi added, “We are looking forward to achieve the best results from this forum which will be held for the first time in Egypt.”


Nemat Khalil, president of TheWorx ended the discussions by saying "It was a great pleasure and honor to organize the annual women's economic forum in Egypt."

She also mentioned, “We are glad to show the world the power of women in the Egyptian economy, which makes this event a great opportunity to show the beauty of our country and bring ambassadors to Egypt.”


For the past 25 years, this annual event has brought together over 100,000 inspiring women from across 150 countries, to exchange experiences and discuss challenges and difficulties that stand in their way and ways to improve the status of women and to empower them.
